Match22 is the ultimate geography memory game. The game features the national flags of the all the world's nations and the flags of US states & territories.
Select the level of play, and the type of game (Single Player, Two Players or Play against Computer), and you're off!
Match22 Version 2.0 is based on a program by the same name which was first distributed as freeware in 1993. Version 2.0 is a total rewrite and includes many new ideas and features.
We hope you enjoy it.
Improvements, enhancements or updates may have been made available since the publication of this version (Aug. 97). If so, they can be found on our Web site at:

Game Options
Level of Play:
There are 6 levels, with an increasing number of cards to match at higher levels. Level
6 (the hardest) contains 100 cards (50 pairs) if playing doubles, or 99 cards (33 triples)
if playing triples.
Modes of Play:
You may play by yourself, against another player, or against the Computer.
Single Player Mode:
You attempt to clear the screen of cards as fast as possible and with the fewest
possible mistakes. A score is kept (at the bottom right of the screen) and the best
scores are recorded for posterity. See more about 'Scoring' below.
Two Player Mode:
The score for each player is brightly displayed on the right hand side of the screen.
The player whose turn it is is highlighted in Red. Each player may select a pictorial
icon to represent her/him.
Playing Against the Computer:
The computer is a great opponent because it is always around, and always willing to
play when you want to!
However... the computer opponent has one very annoying trait - it never forgets! So,
if you think you have a good memory, try and beat the computer! (it's possible)
Doubles / Triples
You may select to match pairs or triples. This option is available from the Control
Strip at the bottom of the screen. Matching triples is of course much more difficult.
Difficult!
Test your knowledge as well as your memory!
This is a 'quiz' mode of play in which you match the flags against the names of the
countries (or states). This option is available from the Control Strip at the bottom of
the screen.
Scoring
When playing in 'One Player' mode, the object of the game is to match all the cards as fast as possible, while turning over the fewest non-matching pairs/triples.
The score is determined as follows:
- Turning over a non-matching pair/triple earns you one point.
- Every few seconds a point is added to your score.
You should attempt to achieve the least amount of points!
The best scores are recorded in the 'Best Scores' window for each category & level of play. When viewing the 'Best Scores' window you may select the different categories & levels at the top right of the list, to view the best scores for that category or level.
Playing Against the Computer
The computer opponent plays fair. It has no idea of the identity of cards which have not been overturned (same as you). On the other hand, the computer opponent has distinct advantages: it never forgets, and cannot be distracted.
Sometimes it may seem as though the computer has 'inside knowledge' when you see it running through an unbelievable lucky streak. Rest assured, that's all it is - a lucky streak. The computer can be beaten.
Voice Generation
Match22 takes extensive advantage of Apple's Speech Synthesis technology. This cool technology, called the Speech Manager or the Text-To-Speech synthesizer, enables the computer to read aloud written text in one of several preinstalled voices.
Speech can be turned On or Off by pressing the Speech button at the bottom left of the screen. When Speech is on, the name of every card that is turned is automatically spoken. Also, wherever written text appears in Match22 (with a few exceptions), clicking on it will cause it to be spoken.
Once Speech has been turned On, you may select 'Voice…' from the 'Game' menu to select the voice to use. The different voices that are available to you are the voices that are installed in your system. These voices are not part of Match22.
Some of the voices are easier to understand, while others are quite zany. Match22 attempts to select for you by default the most legible voice of those that are present.
The Speech Manager is a built in part of system software versions following 7.5, but can also be installed in previous system versions. If Match22 refuses to turn speech ON, then the Speech Manager is not present or it may be improperly installed.
For more information about the Speech Manager visit:
http://speech.apple.com
The latest version of the Speech Manager (as these lines are written) is version 1.4. Version 1.4 of the Speech Manager is included as part of System 7.6 or later, but can be installed in previous system versions. You may download Speech Manager version 1.4 from:

Flag Sets
The flags used in this game were designed especially for Match22. Every effort has been made to achieve accuracy and the finest possible detail. If an error has been made in representing a flag please let us know by writing to:
support@geolearn.com
There are 55 flags in the 'USA Flags' set. The 50 states and the District of Columbia are featured, as well as the following US territories & possessions:
Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa.
There are 192 flags in the 'World Flags' set. This includes all the bona-fide nations of the planet at this time, as listed by the 1997 World Almanac.
Pricing
Match22 costs:
$16 for a single user license, or
$160 for a site license
You may use a non-registered copy of Match22 for 14 days without obligation. If you like it and want to keep it, please pay for it.
The advantages of a Site License are:
1. You do not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the software.
2. It is a better deal if more than 10 users.
A Site License covers all locations for your organization within a 1 mile radius (1.6 km). This is intended to cover all usage within a single organization at a single location. So, for example, two different schools at two locations should purchase separate site licenses even if they are part of the same organization.
The pricing is in $US, but a variety of currencies and payment methods are accepted for your convenience. Please see 'Payment' for a description of the different payment options.
Registration
Registration unlocks the following features:
1. 2-Player Mode -
Play against a human opponent of your choice. The score for
each player is brightly displayed on the right hand side of the
screen. The player whose turn it is is highlighted in Red.
Each player can select a pictorial Icon to represent her/him. This
seems to be a huge attraction for kids. Sometimes it seems
as if they play the game only to select their Icon :-)
2. Play Against the Computer -
The computer is a valuable opponent because it is always around,
and always willing to play when you want to :-)
However... the computer opponent has one very annoying trait -
it never forgets!
So, if you think you have a good memory, try and beat the computer!
(it's possible)
3. Match Levels 3 to 6 -
Not for the fainthearted, the number of tiles on the screen increases
up to a maximum of 100 (Level 6). This is the ultimate memory
challenge!
4. Number of Flags is Not Limited -
In the unregistered version you are limited to 28 cards from each
data set. This limitation is removed upon registration.
The World Flags set contains a total of 192 flags (all of the bona-fide
nations of the planet); USA Flags a total of 55 (including Washington
D.C. and US territories).
To register your copy of Match22:
1. Pay and receive your personal Registration ID.
2. Open the 'Register' dialog window.
The 'Register' dialog can be opened by clicking the 'Register Now'
button, or by selecting 'Register...' from the 'Apple' menu.
3. Enter your Name and Registration ID *exactly* as they appear on the
note you received following payment.
(The Registration ID is personalized to fit your name, and cannot be used
with any other name).
4. Keep the Name and Registration ID for your records. You will need them if
you ever replace your computer (or your System) and wish to reinstall
Match22.
Payment
Paying is fairly simple:
1. Open the 'Pay for Match22' program that accompanies Match22.
2. Enter your name, your eMail address, postal address, and the number of
single user licenses you desire (or site license).
3. Save or Copy or Print the data from the 'Pay for Match22' program and
4. Send the data and payment to Kagi (by eMail, fax or snailMail). More
specifics on the 'Pay for Match22' program to follow.
Note: Kagi is a service organization which handles our payment processing.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can eMail or fax the data to Kagi at:
eMail: sales@kagi.com
fax: +1 510 652-6589
You can either Copy the data from 'Pay for Match22' and paste into the body of an eMail message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an eMail message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via eMail are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an eMail acknowledgment when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet eMail address you will receive an eMail acknowledgment .
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the 'Pay for Match22' application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:
Kagi
1442-A Walnut Street #392-1U4
Berkeley, California 94709-1405
USA
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on our behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Please do not fax or eMail payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or eMail and without the payment, the form cannot be processed.
Payments send via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct eMail address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
When you pay, we provide you with a personal Registration ID that lets you register the program. See 'Registration' for simple instructions and a list of the benefits of registration.
If you do not have an eMail address, please enter your complete postal address and please make sure to include the country name as well.
If you do not have an eMail address you should make sure to select the 'Postcard Receipt' option so that Kagi can inform you of your registration code. Kagi transmits the registration codes via eMail and paid postcard receipt only!
